Devon Allman announces new album with son making recording debut

Devon Allman has delivered a Halloween surprise with the release of “Dead Sea Scrolls,” the first single from his upcoming ambient art-rock album nightvision, due January 2, 2026, via his Create Records label. The new project follows Allman’s 2025 album The Blue Summit.

On nightvision, Allman blends mystic rhythms, searing guitar tones, and song titles inspired by 1980s sci-fi cinema with esoteric Middle Eastern imagery to create an immersive, cinematic soundscape. The album was recorded at his home studio during the COVID pandemic and marks the recording debut of his son, Orion Allman, on synthesizer. Drummer John Lum and bassist Justin Corgan, both longtime collaborators from The Allman Betts Band and the Devon Allman Project, also contribute.

Drawing inspiration from the atmospheric textures of The Police and The Cure, nightvision is described as a lush and dreamlike journey through sound, designed for both introspection and escapism.

“It’s a sense of accomplishment to pull this one out of the vault after 5 years. nightvision is a very special project to me. I have always had a desire to write music for film, so this is a study into that dimension. Recording in the house was a trip, from capturing the drums in the foyer with microphones placed upstairs ala John Bonham, and even going after the Andy Summers sound with vintage Roland Jazz Chorus amps and Electric Mistress pedals. I used mostly shredder guitars like my Jackson 1987 “Jack Butler” (IYKYK) and my Suhr Modern Custom HSS. Additionally, having my son on synth was such a proud moment, as he really added some unique textures,” said Allman.

Throughout his two-decade career, Devon Allman has built a reputation for constant reinvention. His wide-ranging discography includes solo releases along with The Allman Betts Band, Honeytribe, and Royal Southern Brotherhood.
