Bywater Call releases new single, “Ain’t No Friend of Mine”
Canadian roots, rock, and soul band Bywater Call have released their latest single, “Ain’t No Friend of Mine.” The track is a blistering mix of blues, rock, and soul, filled with fiery guitar riffs, a driving rhythm, and the powerhouse vocals of frontwoman Meghan Parnell.
“Ain’t No Friend of Mine” explores themes of betrayal and redemption while balancing traditional blues influences with a contemporary edge. “We wanted to write something bold and confident, mixing traditional blues influences with a modern rock attitude,” said Parnell. “The intention was to convey the strength in acknowledging hurt, letting it out, sharing it, and then letting it go for good. This is reflective in the gang vocal yell in the chorus, which is meant to be freeing and powerful to sing along to.”
The song was recorded at Palace Studios in Toronto, engineered and mixed by Patric McGroarty, and mastered by Kristian Montano of Montano Mastering. The accompanying video, filmed by Zack Murray of Lightning House Media, gives fans an intimate, behind-the-scenes look at the recording process.
“Ain’t No Friend of Mine” follows the band’s critically acclaimed live album Sunshine, released last August, and their 2024 studio record Shepherd. Earlier this year, Bywater Call earned their second consecutive nomination for “International Act of the Year” at the UK Blues Awards.
This fall, Bywater Call will embark on an extensive European and UK tour before returning to the U.S. for a short winter run.
