Ole Lonesome/Tejas Motel
Fabulous Blues Album! Dom Martin: Buried In The Hail …
Faboulus is the understatement of the year????
Good selection and breakdown of all that was great in the BR world of 2023. Vintage year. Top 7: The Record Company, RollingStones, Govt Mule, Ghost Hounds, KWS, JoBo, Tom Hambridge. Blues will NEVER die.
A great selection – all are winners. Love Dom Martin’s Buried In the Hail but Bernie Marsden – posthumous album – respect to Bernie.
Love Marcus King Band but would encourage folks to listen to the CD by Emma Wilson, Home. It’s quite tasty.
Joe Bonamassa all the way .
Buried in the Hail by Dom Martin , fantastic !! A classic !
Ally Venable-Real Gone is THE best blues/rock album of 2023! It’s truly the best album, with a vast variety of soulful blues, rockin’ anthems, and true heartfelt, reflective ballads. I’ve seen her three times this year and she always gives a stellar performance!
Yeah!!!!
Yes. Ally rules! Saw her twice this year. She’s amazin’ Andre Real Gone IS the best Album in 2023.
I took a video of her show at the Spinning Jenny early this year. It’s gotten over 27k views. She puts on one hell of a show.
Yes, she has my vote.
Tough choices but I went with Ally Venable. I also really like the Rival Sons, Foghat, Grainnie Duffy, Robin Trower/Sari Schorr and When Rivers Meet albums. Dirty Honey: Can’t Find the Brakes was my write-in.
Jason Ricci’s album is absolutely AMAZING! He has my vote.
You should really check out Derrick Dove & The Peacekeepers “Rough Time” album, hit #2 on iTunes blues charts. Single “When Did I Get Old” hit #1 on the iTunes blues singles chart and has been in the top 10 since release, #1 right now (11/28/23)
Where is Beth Hart?
She didn’t have a new album this year
When Rivers Meet – aces are high is a brilliant album.
Also ‘73 by Arielle, which I wasn’t expecting to see on the list…. But pleased to see it has been added
it is fantastic to see that blues is still being made from all sides, rocky blues, slow blues , funky blues, country blues,i have loved blues music all my 62 years of life, i love all the well known old blues masters, but since i first discovered Laurence jones about 5 years ago i have had the pleasure of hearing the greatest blues song ever written which was Laurence’s first ever song that he wrote, it’s called “thunder in the sky” and just about every live version is absolutely blown me away. now he has released one of the greatest blues rock albums done with a three piece set up (like Jimi Hendrix) and this is his best album to date, he will be around for years to come and i cannot recommend him enough, if you have not seen him live yet do it on this tour, you will buy his entire back catalogue and go to see him whenever you get the chance, just as i have done. well done Laurence, i was there at the launch of the tour in London and will be there front row at Bury St. Edmunds Apex next year
Greg Sover His-Story got my vote!
Rival Sons????????
Rival Sons are hardly blues, and do NOT tell me I don’t know what I’m talking about, I have all their albums except the one they just released.
Rival Sons are NOT blues, and before you try and tell me I don’t know what I’m talking about, I own ALL their albums except the one that was just released, so I’m plenty familiar with them.
Well, Sons are not (traditional) blues but easily considered as blues rock, with their own tasty style. Great band even though the latest album doesn’t go to their top three recordings.
Brilliant band. Awesome album.
When Rivers Meet.
Aces Are High. Definitely worth a listen.
Ole Lonesome: Tejas Motel, just give it a listen!
When Rivers Meet – Aces High…….. deserves the highest of accolades
Has to be When Rivers Meet: Aces Are High – this album is epic!!
Y’all weren’t lying about Ole Lonesome… Tejas Motel is spectacular!
.Good to see When Rivers Meet have been listed. Great to see – great to hear !
Dom Martin great new album can’t beat it. ????????
When Rivers Meet gets my vote. Much great music on the list, but can only pick one. Aaron & Grace Bond, AKA When Rivers Meet, are just great. Good music, good people, good everything.
Bernie Marsden ‘Working Man’…
Nice to see this album already on the list, as it will be released on December 8th, 2023. Waiting for it!!!
Ally Vensblei
I’m voting for Ally Venable
Ally Venable Band. Real Gone is a great album all the way around. The maturity in Ally’s vocals and playing are best EVER. The production on Real Gone has put that band on a whole other level. I enjoy watching Ally get better and better. ❤️???????? Looking forward to what’s next!
When Rivers Meet are an independent blues rock duo producing superb ,original, music of the quality of the groups, that inspire them, such as Free, Bad Company, and Fleetwood Mac, without losing their modern edge. Driving tunes such as 5 minutes until midnight, and Play My Game, tempered with classic rock ballads, such as Golden, also looking back the superb song Tomorrow, and they may not like this but I have to mention Need to Be. Their music outclasses that of many of the modern, manufactured groups that have all this undeserved success. For quality, and originality they are up there with the likes of Coldplay, and perhaps Elbow, but as independents, they don’t share the same level of success, despite thoroughly deserving it.
We all have different likes and takes. My favorite is a write-in (Andre Bisson) since he’s a relative unknown outside of Canada. He’s got seven studio albums all with blues at the forefront, but mostly blues-rock.
1. “Latchford” by André Bisson
2. “Blu Ja Vu” by Tom Hambridge
3. “Blues Deluxe Vol. 2” by Joe Bonamassa
4. “Colors of Jealousy” by Micke Bjorklof & Blue Strip
5. “Blood Brothers” by Mike Zito and Albert Castiglia
6. “Everything Now” by JW-Jones
7. “CFG & The Family” self-titled
8. “Mana Blues” by Grant Haua
9. “Older Stronger Better” by Bison Hip
10. “Introducing the Özdemirs” by Özdemirs
11. “It’s Time To Shine” by Dave Keller
12. “Capricorn” by Eddie 9V
13. “Real Gone” by Ally Venable
14. “Head Above Water” by Laura Cox
15. “The World Is In Trouble” by Sharrie Williams
16. “Ride Into the Light” by Robert Jon & The Wreck
17. “S.O.S. IV: Blues For Your Soul” by Marc Broussard
18. “Peace…Like a River” by Gov’t Mule
19. “HIS-STORY” by Greg Sover
20. “First Last Time” by Ghost Hounds
Nice to see a mention for Bison Hip! Such an amazing band, really talented musicians and the nicest guys you would ever wish to meet!
Bonamassa!
1. Gov’t Mule
2. Tom Hambridge
3. Joe Bonamassa
