Davy Knowles: The Invisible Man Review
Davy Knowles is back with The Invisible Man. The album follows 2021’s What Happens Next. Knowles made his way onto the scene in the 2000s with his band, Back Door Slam. Over the past decade, Knowles has dabbled with a more folksy style, but The Invisible Man features 13 tracks of strong blues rock.
The album begins with “Good To Know Ya” which clocks in over 6 and a half minutes and rides out with an extended guitar solo. “Tell Me What You Want Me To Be” opens with wah-wah guitar and was released as a single. This tune would fit right in on a Gov’t Mule album. “The Invisible Man” has a riff that evokes Paul Kossoff and is one of the album’s most powerful songs.
The standout track on the album is “Around Here” which features one of the best guitar riffs of the year, a catchy chorus, and a scorching guitar solo that serves the song perfectly without overstaying its welcome. There’s a strong case to be made that it may be the best song Davy has ever recorded.
“All My Life” is a radio friendly rocker and features beautiful guitar overdubbing. “Running Out Of Moonlight” boasts another crunchy riff while “Welcome To The Real World” takes a more laid back approach. “You Love The Rain” has a great beat and sprinkles in well placed slide guitar after the chorus.
Davy takes a more stripped back approach on the resonator to conclude the album with “Wonder You Are.”
Davy Knowles delivers the best album of his career with The Invisible Man. There’s enough to satisfy guitar lovers but Davy’s playing serves the song. Great songwriting and strong vocals, The Invisible Man is a definite winner.
