I saw him perform at the Ram’s Head, about 7 years ago, as guitarist/vocals for “Band Of Friends”, which included Gerry McAvoy and Ted McKenna, both whom played in Rory Gallagher’s bands, in a touring tribute to Rory Gallagher.
Davy Knowles is a phenomenal musician, and is certainly underappreciated, and deserves a great deal more notoriety.
His solo work, and with the earlier Back Door Slam , is terrific as well.
Check out his catalog; I believe it will be well worth your listening time.
