10 Must Hear New Blues Rock Songs
2024 is shaping up to be a very strong year in the world of blues rock. From up and coming artists to established stars of the genre here are 10 must hear new blues rock songs.
Davy Knowles – “Around Here”
Davy Knowles is set to release his new album, The Invisible Man, on November 8, which follows 2021’s What Happens Next. Davy first came onto the blues rock scene as a youngster with his band Backdoor Slam, which released albums in 2007 and 2009. Knowles was touted as one of the rising stars in blues rock. Since then, Knowles explored a more folksy and acoustic direction with albums before shifting back towards a more blues rock based sound in recent years. “Around Here” has been released as a single from The Invisible Man and features one of the best guitar riffs of the year.
Eddie 9V – “Saragota”
While not a traditional blues rock track, “Saratoga” does have some bluesy guitar along with its soulful, retro vibe. Eddie 9V is a name more people need to know. His most recent album, Capricorn, went to #1 on the Billboard Blues chart. “
“Saratoga was written under a perfect western landscape,” describes Eddie. “We had an off day on the road and I was sitting on a random Air B&B porch picking a riff I had recently come up with. I was writing all these little lyrics while looking out to a huge mule deer directly in front of me eating grass and carrots that I was throwing to them.”
Hamish Anderson – “Stir Crazy”
Hamish Anderson released his latest album, Electric, in 2024. One of the standout tracks from the album is “Stir Crazy.” Anderson channels his inner ZZ Top with this head bobbing groovy rocker.
Anderson says, “It’s got a big riff and the power chords put me in the headspace of a AC/DC, Joan Jett, ZZ Top kind of groove. Lyrically it’s about being trapped and trying not to completely lose control.”
Jovin Webb – “Save Me”
Jovin Webb is a newer name to the blues rock scene. Webb recently released his acclaimed debut album, Drifter. “Save Me” was co-written with Tom Hambridge and Richard Fleming and showcases Webb’s standout voice. Jovin Webb is a name people are going to be talking about more and more in the blues rock scene over the coming years.
Kenny Wayne Shepherd – “Never Made It To Memphis”
Kenny Wayne Shepherd shows no signs of slowing down on his latest album, Dirt On My Diamonds Vol. 2. The upbeat “Never Made It To Memphis” is one of the highlights. The perfect combination of catchiness and guitar prowess, Kenny’s strong songwriting skills are on full display.
Eric Steckel – “Hold Your Fire”
Eric Steckel’s “Hold Your Fire” is the most hard rocking song on the list. Steckel grew up on blues and opened for John Mayall when he was just 12 years old. In recent years, Steckel’s style has evolved into a heavier sound that he describes as “blues metal.” “Hold Your Fire” features a monstrous riff and is super charged blues metal with fat tone. While he’s been around for many years, Steckel remains underrated by some but his guitar chops are up there with the best of them.
Tab Benoit – “I Hear Thunder”
Tab Benoit has been a consistent presence in the blues rock scene for decades. However, it was over a decade long wait for Benoit to release his latest album, I Hear Thunder, in 2024. The album and title track show that Benoit hasn’t missed a beat in making his anticipated return. Benoit produced the album himself and recorded it at his Whiskey Bayou Studio.
Brave Rival – “Heavy”
Perhaps one of the most underrated bands in modern blues rock, Brave Rival released the outstanding album Fight or Flight in 2024. The band features dual lead vocalists Chloe Josephine and Lindsey Bonnick. “Heavy” is an epic ballad and the crown jewel of the band’s 2024 release. This UK based blues rock band deserves more attention.
Beth Hart – “Savior With A Razor”
“Savior With A Razor” is the lead track from vocal powerhouse Beth Hart’s new album, You Still Got Me. For the track, Beth enlisted the help of Slash on guitar to deliver a powerful opener. Slash’s guitar perfectly complements Beth’s passionate vocals. Hart continues to prove why she’s one of the best in the game.
Bywater Call – “Holler”
Hailing from Toronto, Bywater Call is one of the top up and coming bands in the modern blues rock scene. Anchored by the vocal prowess of Meghan Parnell and slide guitar wizard Dave Barnes, “Holler” a prime example of the 7-piece band’s explosive power. Bywater Call released the celebrated album Shepherd earlier this year.
