Spencer Mackenzie unleashes “Shoot Me Down”
JUNO-nominated and Maple Blues Award-winning artist Spencer Mackenzie has released his latest single, “Shoot Me Down,” from his forthcoming album Empty Chairs. The track is now available on all major platforms.
“Shoot Me Down” showcases Mackenzie’s swampy slide guitar and stripped-down blues-rock sound, exploring the emotional toll of one-sided love. The song’s lyrics reflect frustration and longing, with Mackenzie asking, “How can you hold up both ends if you’re the only one?” Built around raw slide work and a steady groove, the track captures the tension between devotion and disillusionment.
Mackenzie’s upcoming album Empty Chairs is set for release on February 20, 2026, via Gypsy Soul Records. The record is produced by two-time JUNO-nominated producer and Emmy Award-winning recording mixer Ross Hayes Citrullo, guitarist for The Commoners. Citrullo described the project as a record rooted in authenticity and energy, saying, “What we caught on this album is honesty and fire. Spencer’s playing is fearless, his voice wide open, and every take breathes like a live show you don’t want to end.”
Mackenzie has performed at major festivals including the Montreal International Jazz Festival, Festival d’été de Québec, Moulin Blues Ospel, Ribs & Blues Raalte, and Kulturring Schöppingen Blues Festival. He has shared stages with artists such as Walter Trout, Fantastic Negrito, Samantha Fish, and Jesse Dayton.
