Premiere: John Mayall & The Bluesbreakers “The Stumble”

In a Blues Rock Review premiere, listen to John Mayall & The Bluesbreakers’ “The Stumble”. “The Stumble” is a Freddie King classic and one that Mayall loved as a feature for Peter Green. The guitarist’s prowess, precision and phrasing are on full display here as the band drives him along in fits and surges.

“The Stumble” is off of Live in 1967, Volume 3 featuring John Mayall, Mick Fleetwood, John McVie & Peter Green. It will be released on September 8th via 40 Below Records and was produced by 40 Below’s Eric Corne (Walter Trout, Joe Louis Walker.)

Live in 1967, Volume 3 was recorded by a fan, Tom Huissen. The performance was unheard for over 50 years. Mayall recently obtained the tapes and began restoring them with Eric Corne.

  • Wonderful recording of The Stumble by a great band. Thanks for sharing it. Another fantastic version of the song is done by Dave Edmunds and Love Sculpture. An amazing album.

  • Never gets old or boring. Peter Green at his finest.

  • A jaw-dropping performance from the late Peter Green, which was definitely in his gunslinger mode as opposed to the less is more approach he took from BB King and developed after he formed Fleetwood Mac.

The sound seems superior on volume three compared to the earlier two volumes.
