Most Anticipated Albums of 2023

2022 is coming to a close and it’s time to look towards 2023. 2022 was filled with quality releases (see the Top 20 albums of 2022) and more albums are on the way. While not every album expected in 2023 has a confirmed release date, the following albums will give you a good idea of what to expect.

Here are Blues Rock Review’s most anticipated albums of 2023.


Rival Sons – Darkfighter

Rival Sons has been one of the hardest working and most dedicated bands on the scene since they debuted back in 2009. The band will release Darkfighter on March 10th. It’s the group’s first album since 2019’s Feral Roots which was voted Blues Rock Review’s #1 album of that year and earned two Grammy nominations. Check out the music video for the first single, “Nobody Wants To Die.”


Philip Sayce – TBA

Philip Sayce’s most recent album was 2020’s Spirit Rising. Sayce is considered one of the world’s premier guitar players and any time he releases a new album is an anticipated occasion. Sayce has been working hard in the studio and recently shared to social media, “My new album is ready… it’s going to rip your face off. Be warned!”


The Winery Dogs – III

The Winery Dogs are back with their first album in seven years in 2023 titled III. The all-star trio of Richie Kotzen, Mike Portnoy, and Billy Sheehan have already released the first single and music video, “Xanadu.” III will be released on February 3rd.


Joe Bonamassa – TBA

Joe Bonamassa’s previous two albums, Time Clocks (2021) and Royal Tea (2020), were both voted Blues Rock Review’s #1 album of the year. Bonamassa mentioned to Blues Rock Review on a recent appearance on the Blues Rock Show that he plans to return to the studio in January to record his next album with the aim of releasing in late summer.


Kenny Wayne Shepherd Band – TBA

While Kenny Wayne Shepherd spent 2022 celebrating the 25th anniversary of Trouble Is with Trouble Is… 25, he’s had a studio record in the can since before the pandemic. Shepherd put the album’s release on hold and there’s a fair chance we’ll see this album finally released in 2023. Watch Shepherd’s appearance on The Blues Rock Show below to learn more.


Mike Zito & Albert Castiglia – Blood Brothers

Longtime friends Mike Zito and Albert Castiglia will release Blood Brothers in 2023. The decorated blues rock duo teamed up with the production team of Joe Bonamassa and Josh Smith to record the album in Maurice, Louisiana. In addition to the album, Zito and Castiglia will also be touring together in 2023.


Samantha Fish and Jesse Dayton – Death Wish Blues

Samantha Fish and Jesse Dayton released a 3 track EP called The Stardust Sessions in 2022. This spring, the pair will release Death Wish Blues on Rounder Records. The album will feature 10 original tracks produced by Jon Spencer. The duo released a music video for “Brand New Cadillac.”


Robert Jon and the Wreck – One of a Kind

Robert Jon and the Wreck will be releasing the One of a Kind EP on Joe Bonamassa’s newest record label, Journeyman Records. The band released its latest single, “Who You Can Love” produced by Grammy winner Don was, which will appear on the EP. Robert Jon and the Wreck is one of the most prolific acts on the scene today and they’ve continued to release solid album after album.


Jared James Nichols – Jared James Nichols

Jared James Nichols’ self-titled album will be one of the first releases on 2023. The album is produced by Eddie Spear (Zach Bryan, Slash, Rival Sons). Nichols has established himself as as powerhouse guitarist on the modern blues rock scene. He released a music video for the single, “Down The Drain.”


Eddie 9V – Capricorn

Eddie 9V is one of the young rising stars of the modern blues rock scene and will release Capricorn on January 27th. His latest album, Little Black Flies, was voted to Blues Rock Review’s Top 20 Albums of 2021. Capricorn is named after Capricorn Studios in Macon, Georgia. The first single, “Yella Alligator” is now available.

  • I know that Ghalia Volt with her band are working on a new album, but I don’t know when it will be finished nor the title. In 2021 she was among the nominated for the Grammy Awards so it will be worth to follow up on her.
