Hannah Wicklund unleashes “The Pier” music video
Hannah Wicklund has released her new single “The Pier,” the latest track from her new album, War On Women; Calling All Good Men, available now through Strawberry Moon Records.
“The Pier” is a blues rocker featuring Wicklund’s guitar playing and reverberated vocals. The song reflects on the breakdown of a previous relationship and the impact of destructive behavior on those closest to it.
Wicklund describes the track as “a song for anyone who has ever lost someone they loved to the darkness.”
The 13-track album explores themes of heartbreak, personal struggles, and reclaiming independence. Other songs include “Whistle To Blow,” “The Token,” and “Stockholm,” which address different aspects of a troubled relationship.
Wicklund wrote, recorded, and self-produced the new album on a limited budget, funding the project through sales of her paintings and artwork. Much of the recording took place in Charleston with engineer Devin Vaughan, who also contributed drums.
Rather than releasing the entire album to streaming services at once, Wicklund is making individual tracks available in sequence on each full moon over the course of a year. The complete album is available for purchase on CD, vinyl, and digital download.
Wicklund is currently touring North America following a recent run of shows in the United Kingdom. Her upcoming performances include a co-headlining tour with Turning Jane, followed by her 12-date Red Gorilla headline tour beginning November 18.
“My new record was wildly freeing to write and release, but to be out on the open road and back on the Rock N Roll stage feels strangely grounding. There’s nowhere else I’m meant to be right now.”
