Grammy nominated blues artist recovering after major heart attack

Grammy-nominated blues artist Kenny Neal is recovering after suffering what his family described as a major heart attack.

The news was shared on Neal’s social media channels in the following statement:

“Kenny Neal’s immediate family would like to inform everyone that Kenny survived a major heart attack this past Saturday in Louisiana. After an intense effort to save his life, he is now stable and recovering in the ICU. We would like to thank the incredible medical staff who have been providing exceptional care to Kenny.

Our family is requesting privacy at this time, as he is not yet out of the woods. Please keep Kenny in your thoughts and prayers, and we will provide an update in due time.”

One of the most respected figures in modern blues, Neal earned a Grammy Award nomination in 2017 for “Best Contemporary Blues Album” for Bloodline. The acclaimed release also earned two honors at the Blues Music Awards and further cemented Neal’s reputation as one of the genre’s leading artists.

Neal was inducted into the Blues Hall of Fame in May.

Born into a musical family, Neal has spent decades carrying forward the swamp blues tradition while blending elements of soul, funk, and contemporary blues. Throughout his career, he has released numerous acclaimed albums and become a fixture on blues festival stages.
