Premiere: Peter Karp – “House Full of Love”
Blues Rock Review is presenting an exclusive premiere of “House Full Of Love,” the new single from acclaimed singer-songwriter Peter Karp. The track appears on his upcoming album Jersey Town, which is set for release on April 16 and will be followed by a European tour in support of the record.
The video for “House Full Of Love” was filmed at the legendary Stanhope House in New Jersey shortly before the venue closed. Long regarded as a cornerstone of the regional music scene, the Stanhope House hosted iconic artists including Muddy Waters, Johnny Winter, and Stevie Ray Vaughan. It was also a formative venue for Karp, who played there regularly while building his career.
Reflecting on the video and its setting, Karp explained, “The House Full Of Love video was filmed at the legendary Stanhope House in New Jersey just before the venue closed. The Stanhope House was a historic music venue that previously hosted musical legends such as Muddy Waters, Johnny Winter, Stevie Ray Vaughan, among many more. Karp played there regularly when he was first starting out. The venue’s presence adds poignant resonance to ‘House Full Of Love,’ a song that pairs intimate storytelling with roots-rock and blues influences.”
The song itself draws from a deeply personal real-life experience, revealing Karp’s ability to find emotional depth in everyday moments. He shared the story behind the lyrics, saying, “One day, I went to his house for brunch. He and his wife had a beautiful spread on the table; they were pouring each other wine, laughing, and calling each other ‘darling.’ Later, I went to the bathroom and discovered the toilet wouldn’t flush, and there was no hot water. As I walked through the house, I noticed everything was broken or in disarray. On the outside, their marriage was shiny and glorious, but the house told another story.”
That contrast between outward appearances and hidden realities sits at the heart of “House Full Of Love,” giving the song both narrative power and emotional weight. Musically, the track blends roots-rock textures with soulful blues influences, providing a warm yet gritty backdrop for Karp’s vivid storytelling.
Looking ahead to the full album, Karp described the spirit behind the project: “Jersey Town, his 13th record, delivers confrontational bluesy bluster rooted in the gritty, fierce birthplace where Karp honed his storytelling and aggressive guitar chops. The album features 11 original songs exploring universal themes of loss, love, murder, infidelity, faith, fate, and desperation, songs that can only come from a place called ‘Jersey Town.’”
Jersey Town marks Karp’s 13th studio release and represents a return to the musical and emotional landscape that shaped his artistic identity. Drawing from decades of touring and recording, the album highlights his strengths as a songwriter, guitarist, and vocalist, while staying grounded in the working-class realities and human stories that have long fueled his work.
