With the album just over a month away, “I’m Late” offers a revealing look at Willie’s raw, unfiltered songwriting. The track turns its attention toward chaos, exhaustion, and self-sabotage, capturing the hard edges of life on the road.
“I’m Late” is about “running late to the gig,” explains Willie. “Stopping at the liquor store on your way there – even though you were already 40 minutes late – being up for three days, playing a two hour set, running out of gas on a hill, borrowing money to buy a soccer ball, trying your luck at the nine ball.”
The single comes from Bill’s Cafe. Named after his grandfather’s pool hall café in Alert Bay, British Columbia, the record serves as both a tribute to his roots and a marker of personal evolution. The album was recorded in Nashville with Grammy Award-winning producer Tom Hambridge, known for his work with Buddy Guy, Kingfish, and Susan Tedeschi, helping Willie refine his blues rock sound into something broader and more commanding.
