Luke Winslow-King announces “Coast of Light”

Singer-songwriter and guitarist Luke Winslow-King will release his new album Coast of Light on March 27 via Bloodshot Records. The album’s lead single, “Dangerous Blues,” is available now and offers an early look at what Winslow-King describes as his most adventurous work to date.

Originally from Cadillac, Michigan, and now based in Spain, Winslow-King has built a reputation for blending blues, jazz, folk, and classical influences into a cinematic and emotionally direct sound. His songwriting and musicianship have earned praise from The New York Times, which noted that his music “seamlessly melds Delta blues, gospel and jazz themes with personal, simplified lyrics that speak to his personal and artistic evolution.”

Coast of Light reflects both personal and geographic exploration, drawing inspiration from Winslow-King’s time in southern Spain, particularly the city of Cádiz on Andalusia’s Atlantic coast. The album explores themes of life, death, hope, failure, and love while incorporating musical elements influenced by Spanish culture and flamenco traditions. The project is rooted in Winslow-King’s experience of discovering Cádiz and its artistic spirit, which he channels into what he describes as an impressionistic reflection of real life.

The 12-track album was co-produced by Winslow-King and longtime collaborator Roberto Luti at Jambona Lab Studios in Livorno, Italy. Winslow-King handles guitar, percussion, and vocals, with Luti contributing guitar. The lineup also includes Simone Luti on bass, Piero Perelli on drums and congas, Nicola Venturini on Hammond organ, Fender Rhodes, piano and drums, and Giacomo Riggi on mallet percussion.

Discussing the creative direction of the album, Winslow-King said, “We’re playing with more genres and tones than ever before. It feels natural, and I’m comfortable here. I hope listeners are ready to come along for the ride.”

Winslow-King’s catalog spans more than 15 years and includes albums such as Luke Winslow-King (2008), Old/New Baby (2009), The Coming Tide (2013), Everlasting Arms (2014), I’m Glad Trouble Don’t Last Always (2016), Blue Mesa (2018), and If These Walls Could Talk (2022). He has recorded with artists including George Porter Jr., Little Freddy King, and John Boutté, and has shared stages with Jack White, Taj Mahal, and Rosanne Cash. His song “Everlasting Arms” was notably performed by Dr. John for the Playing for Change: Songs Around the World series.

A seasoned touring artist, Winslow-King has appeared at major festivals and venues worldwide, including Austin City Limits, New Orleans JazzFest, Glastonbury, Byron Bay Bluesfest, Azkena Rock Festival, and many others. He continues to tour in support of his new music with upcoming dates across the U.S., including shows in New York, Atlanta, Nashville, Memphis, and New Orleans.
