Jonathon “Boogie” Long unveils “Baby I’m Through”

Baton Rouge blues rock guitarist Jonathon “Boogie” Long has released his new single “Baby, I’m Through,” the latest preview from his upcoming album Courage In The Chaos, due March 6th on Myrical Media. The track arrives with an accompanying music video showcasing Long and his band performing live in a bright studio setting.

“Baby, I’m Through” follows last month’s single “A Fool Can See” and continues the album’s focus on direct, emotionally centered songwriting. Long describes the new track as a moment of clarity. “There’s a point where you’re done,” he says. “You don’t whisper it to one person. You say it to everybody.” The band builds around that sentiment with a restrained arrangement that leaves space for his vocals and guitar lines.

The video mirrors the song’s simplicity, capturing Long and his group playing with the looseness and connection of musicians who have spent years together. It reflects the straightforward approach that defines much of the record.

Courage In The Chaos blends new writing with songs Long has carried for years. The album draws on Baton Rouge blues, gospel phrasing, and elements of jam influenced guitar work. Long recorded the project with a longtime collaborator who encouraged him to revisit his musical roots. The result is his most personal release to date.

The album explores themes of resilience, identity, and the experiences that shaped Long’s career. He grew up in a musical family, learning guitar in church before performing in nursing homes and prisons as a young child. Mentorship from players like Mark Wascom, Kenny Neal, and Larry Garner helped define his sound. By fourteen he was on the road with Henry Turner Jr., later spending years performing with New Orleans vocalist Luther Kent. In 2011 Long gained national attention by winning Guitar Center’s King of the Blues competition.

Courage In The Chaos brings those influences together while reflecting the steadiness Long has earned across decades of performing. The album features moments of high energy, but much of the focus is on feel, phrasing, and storytelling.

  • This guy is definitely rising quick in Blues Rock. I’ve only heard a limited amount of his work but you can hear a rapid progression towards the mainstream many of the top artists in Blues Rock occupy. Nice to see he has a sense of humor too. Looking forward to the album.
