Rock and Roll Hall of Famer to step back from touring with Joe Bonamassa
After ten years of performing alongside Joe Bonamassa, Rock & Roll Hall of Fame keyboardist Reese Wynans has announced he will step back from everyday touring following Bonamassa’s Fall 2025 U.S. Tour. The decision marks the end of an extraordinary era for the band. Fans will have a final opportunity to see Wynans live during the ongoing fall tour.
Wynans, best known for his tenure with Stevie Ray Vaughan & Double Trouble, has been an essential part of Bonamassa’s lineup since 2015. Renowned for his soulful Hammond B3 organ and piano work, Wynans’ playing has been a musical anchor for the band.
“To say it has been an honor is an understatement,” says Bonamassa. “My friend Reese has been integral to everything I have done not only for the past decade but for my entire musical life. I love and respect this man more than I can articulate in words. It is not goodbye, but it is something that is well deserved and love that Reese is taking time to enjoy semi-retirement. He is irreplaceable and one of a kind in the best possible way.”
In the late 1960s, he performed with several pre–Allman Brothers Band groups, including The Second Coming alongside Dickey Betts and Berry Oakley. His career reached legendary status when he joined Stevie Ray Vaughan & Double Trouble in 1985.
Following Vaughan’s passing, Wynans became a sought-after session and touring musician, collaborating with artists such as Buddy Guy, Delbert McClinton, Lee Roy Parnell, Kenny Wayne Shepherd, and Mike Henderson. He was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2015 as a member of Double Trouble.
That same year, Wynans joined Bonamassa’s touring band, performing at nearly every major venue and festival worldwide. His contributions can be heard on several of Bonamassa’s releases, including the upcoming B.B. King’s Blues Summit 100. Wynans and Bonamassa first worked together in the studio on 2010’s Dust Bowl, sparking a friendship and creative partnership that has lasted more than 15 years.
“Reese’s contribution to this band can’t be overstated,” says Bonamassa. “Every night, he brings history, class, and soul to the stage. We’re all lucky to have shared this run with him.”
Wynans’ farewell run will take place during Bonamassa’s U.S. Fall 2025 Tour, running from November 3 through December 6. The shows will feature songs from Bonamassa’s latest album Breakthrough, a surprise track from his Rory Gallagher Irish tour set, and special selections honoring B.B. King’s centennial.
