Premiere: Crystal Shawanda – “Evil”
In a Blues Rock Review premiere, watch the brand new music video for Crystal Shawanda’s “Evil.” The track is a take on the Howlin’ Wolf classic from Shawanda’s upcoming album, Midnight Blues, available September 30th.
“I recorded my version of ‘Evil’ by Howlin’ Wolf because he was one of my greatest influences in the blues,” Shawanda tells Blues Rock Review. “I respected the way he carried himself as a person and as a blues man. Our version has kind of a spooky vibe to it, so we just tried to capture that. The track is also very bare bones, so we wanted to keep it simple. It can be hard to find the time to film a video when you’re on the never ending tour, so that’s the storyline; we stopped to jam out at this shack and we’re back on the road again.”
Midnight Blues is the JUNO award winner’s eighth studio album. It was produced and engineered in Nashville by her husband and longtime collaborator, Dewayne Strobel.
