Walter Trout has released a music video for his new single, “Heartland.” The track is featured on Trout’s new album, Ordinary Madness, available August 28.
“Heartland is a song about summoning the courage to follow your dreams,” says Trout. “It’s the story of a young girl but she could be anyone who has come to a crossroads in their life. She realizes that to follow her dream to make more of her life, requires stepping out alone, into the vast unknown. It’s about taking the great gamble.”
In a recent interview with Blues Rock Review, Trout tells the story of how the song came to him in a dream. “I had a dream one night that I was sitting on the couch with my wife, and in the dream we were watching television. It was a TV show called Heartland,” said Trout. “The show ended in the dream and then the theme song came on and I woke up from the dream and I was laying there and I thought to myself I don’t really like that show but I really like that theme song. Then I woke up a little more and I went, “Wait a minute. That’s not a show. That was a dream.”And I quickly, right next to my bed is a guitar, I pushed record on my phone, and the first verse alone, “At the break of dawn a young girl sits on the fence and she’s crying in the heartland.”
