The Temperance Movement return with new album

The Temperance Movement have announced their fourth studio album, New Promise Land Incorporated, which will be released on October 9 via Earache Records.

Along with the album announcement, the British rock band has released the lead single, “Eat You Alive,” offering fans their first taste of the group’s first collection of new material in eight years.

Lead guitarist Paul Sayer said the band intentionally returned to the approach that defined its early recordings.

“The album is a return to our beginnings in the truest sense. We went about it in the same way we did our first album, the band in a room, live to tape. This time with Ethan Johns alongside us, we wanted to capture what it’s like to be in a room with The Temperance Movement.”

Frontman Phil Campbell shared the inspiration behind the new single.

“‘Eat You Alive’ was one of the first songs written. The lyrics describe the Somerset countryside in context to my journey to write with the guys – casting it against my own super-urban home life in Glasgow. I’m dissatisfied with the shooshing, nit-picking and editing of life nowadays. I was a teenager in the 90’s, and now I live in a very controlled and conservative world compared to that liberal zenith. The concept of being eaten alive or ruined entirely for backing the wrong horse or sticking up for the good guy when the bad guy has all the votes – these are very real fears for anyone today, from children through to adulthood.”

Recorded in April 2026, New Promise Land Incorporated was produced and mixed by Ethan Johns, whose previous work includes albums with Kings of Leon, Laura Marling and Ray LaMontagne. The band recorded the album live to tape, aiming to capture the energy and chemistry of their live performances.

The 10-track album features songs including “Shadows,” “Silverlight Blues,” “Love Kicks,” “Mongrels,” and “Saving Grace.” It marks the band’s first full-length release of new material since 2018’s A Deeper Cut.

The Temperance Movement emerged as one of Britain’s leading modern rock bands during the 2010s, earning multiple UK Top 40 albums, including A Deeper Cut, which reached No. 6 on the UK Albums Chart.

After stepping away following that release, the band reunited for a series of live performances in 2025. The comeback tour included sold-out shows across the UK and Europe, highlighted by a sold-out performance at London’s O2 Forum Kentish Town.

The band’s return continues this year with appearances at several European festivals, including Steelhouse Festival, Maid of Stone Festival, Azkena Rock Festival, Notodden Blues Festival and Rootsy Summer Fest. A 21-date UK and European headline tour will follow the release of New Promise Land Incorporated.
