Will Eric Gales turn viral Beethoven cover into a single?
During a recent appearance on the Blues Rock Show, Eric Gales addressed whether he’s ever considered recording Beethoven’s “Für Elise” as a single. Gales has been putting his spin on the Beethoven classic for many years during his live show.
“No, I have not, but, hey, you know, you just sparked an idea and I may do that,” Gales said. “You might be on to something. No, I haven’t. But I mean, I guess I should. I think that would be a good idea,” Eric responded.
“I just have been a fan of all different styles and kinds of music, man, and that has always been a beautiful piece to me, and it just started with me challenging myself to see if I could play it on guitar one day, and kind of turned into morphing it into my own.” Gales adds, “That is a millennial piece of music that people instantly recognize. Again, that goes back to me saying if you’re going to do a remake of something, you want to kind of make it be your own way, but still kind of giving homage to the originality of it. So, when I play that, people just kind of you can hear the ooh and ah in the crowd when people are like, “Oh, wow. I can’t believe he even tackled something like that.”
The performance has been popular with fans online. Blues Rock Review shared a clip from Gales’ rendition of “Für Elise” at the 2024 S.E.R.P.E.N.T. Festival, which racked up over 5 million views across Blues Rock Review’s social media channels, with over 2.1 million on Instagram, over 1.6 million on Facebook, and over 1.4 million on TikTok.
