Jeff Plankenhorn releases “The Mess” single
Jeff Plankenhorn is pleased to announce the release of his new single, “The Mess,” from his 4th album, Alone At Sea, which will drop September 29th via Blue Corn Music. Jeff will be taking his show on the road, this September, making several appearances at the Americanafest in Nashville.
Plankenhorn’s official Americanafest showcase will take place on September 20th @7PM at 3rd & Lindsley, he’ll also be performing a unique set for WMOT’s “Words & Music” (NPR) on September 19th at The Purple Building, and he’ll make an appearance at the Mule Kick Records / devious planet Rock ‘n Roll Brunch at Love & Exile in East Nashville on September 21st. His AMA band boasts the following heavy hitters: Dominic John Davis – bass (Jack White), Scrappy Jud Newcomb – guitar (Patty Griffin, Ian McLagan, etc.), Jeff Plankenhorn – guitars & keyboards, and George Receli – drums (Bob Dylan, Keith Richards, etc.) Scroll down for a complete list of tour dates.
“The Mess” is the latest single from his forthcoming release, Alone at Sea. Jeff explains “The Mess,” “I used to live in this beautiful old log home in Wimberley, TX. Down a dirt road, on top of a hill on the bank of the Blanco River. The home was beautiful but hard, with some old cobwebs and creaks. At times, it was downright spooky. This is more about how I was not taking care of myself very well at that time in my life. I just used the house as a metaphor. I did have an old friend named Brian say when I was in college, “Jeff if you don’t take care of your body, where are you going to live?” Made for a good song ending.”
Jeff’s musical journey led to Memphis and a chance meeting with Texas singer-songwriter Ray Wylie Hubbard and Plank’s 20-year sojourn in the Lone Star state. The slide guitarists’ next-level talent opened many doors, leading Jeff to perform with the likes of Hubbard and Joe Ely, Ruthie Foster, Bob Schneider, the late Jimmy LaFave,
For Jeff Plankenhorn, there’s nothing quite like the feeling of bringing people together to experience the joy music brings. He’s so good at it that he won an Austin Music Award, Best. Misc. Instrument, and he received nominations for Musician of the Year and Best Guitarist. In 2016-2017, he also earned nominations for Album and Song of the Year. Plankenhorn’s songwriting, expressive vocals, and musicianship are front and center on Alone At Sea, produced by Colin Linden (Bruce Cockburn, Keb Mo.) What separates Plankenhorn from the pack is that he’s stayed true to his guns, going his own way. He’s not chasing any trends. Instead, his focus is on quality songwriting, making every word count. He’s made an album that people of all ages are connecting to in a much stronger way.
