  • Really? Eric Gales lost to Edgar Winter! With all due respect, Eric Gales was believing in himself.

  • He got it more so because of who he is. More. Famous and with Johnny passing.
Yes would have been great for Eric. He deserves it

  • Then you didn’t hear the double cd featuring just about every blues great out on the circuit today… such an incredible cd

  • I will preface by stating, that if you have read any of my previous posts, I have followed the Winter Brothers, recordings and live, since Johnny’s and Edgar’s individual debut albums, until Johnny’s untimely passing, through the present .

Personally, not a fan of the Grammys, which (IMO) are almost equal to my disrespect for the Rock and Roll Hall of Shame, but the Recording Academy got it right, in this category, this year.

If you have not heard “Brother Johnny” in it’s entirety, you are missing out on one of the best contemporary albums, period.

Congratulations to Edgar, and all his musical contributors, for an award well deserved.

  • Congrats to Edgar Winter on his Grammy for Brother Johnny….If you really want to honor the true blues, then you go to its roots… These guys were as close to the roots as you are going to get, especially Johnny in this exploited Grammy charade… im not trying to take away from any of the talent, but please if you are a true lover of the Blues then you should haveat least the common sence to honor the icons that inspired the newer artists that came a few generations after them…and in most cases were their idols. Ihttps://www.rollingstone.com/music/music-news/bonnie-raitt-song-of-the-year-2023-grammys-1234669204/m very happy the acadmy at least got this one right and also gave Bonnie Raitt the grammy for the best song of the year, which she and I were both shocked about but very pleasently surprised. I saw Bonnie in concert this past summer sing this beautiful tribute song written about her dear friend and collegue and incredible singer songwriter John Prine whom we sadly lost.once again, history has its place in our sociatial pecking order and the old school way of showing respect should live on otherwise the greats that came before them seem to fade into the woodwork. so Kudos to the acadamy on getting this one right…Congratulations Bonnie Raitt, I know your dad i looking down on you witha bid smile and much admiration.

But, now to my rant…Im honestly in shock that Buddy Guy did not win the grammy for his new album called “The Blues Dont Lie”…a stellar albumn from the formidable 86 yr old Buddy Guy about to embark on his 2023 Farewell Tour…Im in a bit of shock quite frankly considering he is semi retring…was really praying he would get what would have been his 9th Grammy for this one on his way out of the big touring game. oh well, Congrats to Taj Mahal he is also a pioneer. Buddy even performed at the pre telecast preview show this afternoon so that makes it even more dissapointimg. But Buddy being a very humble guy will take it in stride because he has so much respect for his fellow peers.Either way Buddy, you are the winner in my eyes…Your Albums and CDs will be fling off the shelves at legends and while you are on your farewell tour…

    • I understand what you’re saying but for the future keep on eye on John Primer. Played with Muddy Waters as a young man. Today he is making great records and touring around the world. He is the real thing. Many people get overlooked.

  • Thanks to Pete and the rest of the staff for the comprehensive insight into the world of Blues.
Nothing like this is on mainstream radio and tv, all we get is Beyonce, Harry Styles etc who cannot even play an instrument and make their way in the world by miming and dancing.

Thanks again, all may not agree with the Awards but keep up the good work
    Best regards – Stuart

  • I have no issue with the winning album. Just that these awards typically go to the best knowns. And as good as the cd is, should a cd of covers be in the same category as artists who are presenting all or mostly all new original material? There are no shortage of cover albums in todays world. Perhaps a best cover album category should be made. Keep it fair.

  • Edgar Winter was the second concert I ever saw (the first was Three Dog Night, and yeah, I’m old as dirt). My friend and I were a bit disappointed since it turned out to be The Edgar Winter Group and not White Trash (a by far superior group in my opinion, and one of my all time favorites). Still, we enjoyed the show. He’s definitely a talented musician. Johnny never made it around these parts (Georgia) much, but a buddy and I did finally get to see him at a blues festival in Columbia. S.C. Also, my wife was at a Korean War Ex-POW convention (father in law survived, barely, being a POW) in Chicago years ago. A guy she was talking to (one of the relatives, not an ex-POW) he had to cut out to go see his brother. Johnny was doing a show in Chicago and his brother was Johnny’s sound guy. My wife mentioned he was one of my favorites so the guy brought back a nice letter to me from and signed by Johnny. I thought that was pretty cool of both of them.
