Premiere: Jason Lee McKinney Band – “Make No Mistake”
In a Blues Rock Review premiere, stream the brand new song “Make No Mistake” by the Jason Lee McKinney Band. The track is from the Nashville-based band’s upcoming album, One Last Thing, available March 18th.
“Make No Mistake” started as a straight up blues number with a straight feel but about a week before we took it in to record, I got this half time riff in my head,” said McKinney. We switched it up to the more funky feel that is on the recording. Lyrically the song has nods to John Newton’s Amazing Grace as well as Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol. Particularly the line that Bob Cratchit articulates regarding what tiny Tim wanted people to see by him going to church, “He hoped the people saw him in the church, because he was a cripple, and it might be pleasant to them to remember upon Christmas day who made lame beggars walk, and blind men see.”
