The Fumes: Bloodless Review

Bloodless is the third and latest album from the Aussie group, The Fumes. You are brought in with the track “Silverstar,” one of the more upbeat rock and roll pieces of the album. Steve Merry, the lead guitarist and vocalist, exhibits an influence from George Thorogood with his expressive, gravely voice that is heard throughout the album.

Many of the songs on their newest album such as “Broke the Chain,” “Why,” and “Eat This Sucker and Ride,” highlight the dark and gritty qualities of the band. Whereas “Bloodless,” “Be a Friend,” and “Lonely as You Are,” showcased their musical abilities a bit better with the added harmonica and guitar riffs. The Fumes rocked out in “Over the River” and let their bluesy rock and roll sounds shine. Listening to the album start to finish, you may get the feeling you are at a small town southern outdoor concert with the smell of campfire and beer in the air.

Bloodless closes with the melancholy track, “Anhialation.” This song is full of emotion and one of the highlights of the album. The Fumes are clearly musically talented but the album overall was a bit all over the place and could have benefited from including more bluesy guitar riffs.

The Review: 7/10
