The Della Grants: Time For Change Review

The Della Grants are comprised of Maxx Manning, Andy Boulton and Tom Walker (all previously of The Mokats), with the addition of Tom Best on guitar to round out the new endeavor. Their sound stays true to the soulful blues their previous undertaking sought to champion. Their sound evokes a modern take on the classic rhythms and progressions of blues rock. Time For Change captures the next step in their musical career, taking many of the prior EP’s tracks and re-mastering them herein.

“Too Fast” is a slow and steady build to a rockin’ feel good track about seizing the day. The song features a simple, upbeat riff throughout, giving way to playful soloing and soulful vocals. “Lay My Head” comes on fast with a distorted harmonica bellowing through the speakers. It’s another upbeat jam that weaves all instruments seamlessly giving each its own moment to shine. With the EP tracks peppered throughout the album, they are seamlessly blended into a well-crafted flow from start to finish. “Truth Don’t Cost A Penny” is a funky selection off the EP, with a heavy, power chord-laden chorus line. “Am I Wrong” features a slide guitar for a stylistic change in direction. The vocals are fast and follow the guitar up and down the scale, like a ship on a stormy sea. “Keeping Me Away From You” is another off the EP, and offers a little Stevie Ray sound.

This debut album from The Della Grants is a solid testament to modern blues. The foursome is sure to make some waves in the industry. With strong, soulful vocals and a powerful duo on guitar, their sound has evolved into a well-oiled machine.
