Walter Trout returns to Omaha for heartfelt performance
10 years ago, Walter Trout was days from death. Trout was awaiting a life-saving liver transplant. Just in time, Walter received the phone call that would save his life to receive the liver transplant he desperately needed.
10 years later, Trout returned to Omaha for an emotional performance at Playing With Fire. Trout performed a heartfelt set for the thousands of fans in attendance, including the doctor who saved his life.
Then in the most emotional moment of the evening, Trout’s wife Marie joined him on stage. Trout shared what he told Marie in seemingly his final days.
“If I’m going to croke, get me out of here. Take me home,” Walter told Marie. “I wanna go home. I don’t want to die in a hospital bed,” Walter said. Marie wouldn’t allow that, so she’d climb into the hospital bed with Walter, hold him in her arms, and say, “OK, Walter, you are home.”
Walter then performed an emotional rendition of “Please Take Me Home” inspired by the experience.
