Lukas Nelson & Promise of the Real: Kansas City Photo Gallery
Opening for Lukas Nelson & Promise of the Real on September 16th at Knuckleheads in Kansas City was Talia Keys. By the end of the set I felt like I was chillin with my best friend at a backyard BBQ. She interacted with the crowd in such a way that made each audience member feel like we were all on tour with her. She shared stories, told us about her wife, and genuinely expressed care for each person there. Coming in from Salt Lake City, Talia’s one woman show runs on a loop, showcasing her musical talent expanding through multiple instruments. Her rendition of “Sweet Dreams” is literally what dreams are made of. Kansas City wasn’t ready for this absolute queen of rock.
Promoting their new album Sticks and Stones, Lukas Nelson & POTR stopped in Kansas City for a two night run, can I get an Alcohallelujah. Fans poured in hours before the show, loudly declaring their love for Willie’s son and his band. Lukas told the audience about his Italian heritage (on his mom’s side!) before diving into songs about his life. His entire band was celebrating life and happiness evidenced by the natural smiles beaming across the stage. The way they look at one another and bust up laughing is the type of nonverbal communication most bands strive to achieve. Lukas may be one of eight children but he and his bandmates are truly one of a kind.
