Premiere: Alastair Greene pays tribute to Peter Green with “If You Be My Baby” video
In a Blues Rock Review exclusive premiere, watch the new music video for Alastair Greene’s take on Peter Green’s “If You Be My Baby.” The tribute comes on the third anniversary of Peter Green’s death, July 25, 2020.
On covering Peter Green, Alastair said, “By the time I heard Peter Green I’d already been playing guitar for quite some time and had been digging into many of the legendary blues and blues rock players.”
Greene adds, “I was immediately knocked out by his tone, touch, and feel. “A Hard Road” by John Mayall was my first exposure to Peter, but soon after I was exploring the early Fleetwood Mac records. He seemed like a very unique character. He had this mystery surrounding him and his career. I found that intriguing.”
Greene states, “I found myself with some extra time at the end of a recording session, so we put down a version of ‘If You Be My Baby’ that Peter had written and recorded while in Fleetwood Mac. When I revisited the recording over a year later, I decided to bring in some friends to get it sounding in the ballpark of the original but with some subtle, in the moment differences. The guitar, vocals and drums were recorded live at Sean McCue’s Coyote Road Studios. Jimmy Carpenter’s sax, Red Young’s piano, and Lisa Mann’s bass all brought the recording home and helped in manifesting my vision of paying tribute to one of my heroes. Erik Nielsen then produced the video with clips we had from the session putting the final touches on the tribute.”
“There have been some beautiful tributes paid to Peter Green on recordings in concert over the years. I wanted to add my own in hopes of continuing to shine a light on his talent and contribution to modern blues and blues rock,” says Greene.
