Jimmie Vaughan undergoes open heart surgery

Legendary guitarist Jimmie Vaughan is recovering after having open heart surgery according to a statement on his social media pages.

The statement said, “We want to let everyone know that Jimmie Vaughan recently underwent unexpected open heart surgery from cardiac issues he’s had for many years. He came through the surgery wonderfully and is recovering well. He is looking forward to being back on the road, better than ever in 2023!”

The 71-year-old Vaughan is a four-time Grammy award winner and released The Pleasure’s All Mine in 2020. In 2021, The Jimmie Vaughan Story box set was released to celebrate his 70th birthday.

Vaughan is the former lead guitarist of the Fabulous Thunderbirds and the older brother of Stevie Ray Vaughan.

  • My brother and I saw Jimmy Vaughn in Dec. 1986 at the Sheraton in Honolulu, Hawaii when he played for The Fabulous Thunderbirds. It was so sad when we next were going to see him at Antone’s in Austin, Texas Dec. 28, 2022 on The Jungle Tour with Billy Gibbons. Get well, Jimmy! We love you my brother! Blessings??
