Josh Garrett Band: Honey For My Queen Review

Josh Garett shows roots in his latest release Honey For My Queen. This album is loaded with southern rhythms, some smooth vocals and plenty of tasteful guitar licks, Honey For My Queen delivers a shot of modern blues influence to delta influenced soul of his native Louisiana.

The title track “Honey for My Queen” is a tune that blends that line between rock and a country vibe. You can picture a working man’s band sitting around in a bunch of wooden chairs on the porch on some well-deserved time off letting this tune set the tone for the evening. “Back from Memphis” continues along in that country influenced groove. “Same Boat” changes the pace up, featuring the esteemed James Johnson on guitar, and has a great R&B vibe that makes this just a fun tune. “Good night Goodnight” strips things down to just an acoustic guitar and harp and returns up to that Southern country blues sound. “Slide in G” is a funky foot tapping instrumental featuring Josh’s slide playing. “Easy Chair” is a dark brooding blues that gives you visions of strolling down the street after a late night rain storm.

The play on words is going strong in the chicken picked blues of “Whole Bottle of Whine.” Josh clearly displays his blues skills with the superbly executed slow blues cover of “Ain’t Nobody’s Business.” Things quickly turn southern again excellent quickly picked guitar lines along with the guest fiddle skills of Waylon Thibodeaux, which lends a down home country feel to “Dat’s Alright With Me.” Bourbon street sound is all over the closing track of “Moonshine and Cigarettes”

Josh delivers a fun album that is an interesting mash up of his Louisiana influenced roots with some first rate blues playing. You could say it is honey sweet.
