Hat Fitz & Cara Robinson: Do Tell Review
Hat Fitz and Cara Robinson’s new album, Do Tell, has arrived just in time for summer with a collection of warm ballads and hypnotic blues takes. This earthy blues outfit, comprised of Aussie blues veteran Hat Fitz and Irish Songstress Cara Robinson, who has toured with the likes of Jamiroquai and Corrine Bailey-Rae, is truly remarkable. The combination of Robinson’s explosive voice and steady drumming with Fitz’s guitar playing and rugged vocals makes for a powerful duo.
Part of what makes Do Tell really stand out is its instrumentation. Vibrant slide guitars, lush string arrangements and Robinson’s flute add another dimension to their sound, making it all the more soulful. Songs like “Friday Night,” “Gotta Love” and “Sister Sister” all showcase Robinson’s elastic voice against these forces, creating a powerful package of beautiful, deep rooted music.
One of the most stunning moments on Do Tell is the title track itself, with lead vocals sang by Fitz. There’s a prominent celtic vibe that does a great job complimenting Fitz’s narrative. There are also some nice duets such as the rolling “Coming Home” which closes off the album with a resounding feeling of southern comfort.
