Hamilton Loomis: Give It Back Review

Hamilton Loomis is back with another great album, titled Give It Back. It is filled with many different sounds and genres.

The first song on an album is always important. It can make or break whether a listener wants to hear more or turn it off. The opening song of Give It Back, “Stuck In A Rut,” is definitely one that makes ears perk and want more. It has a grooving feel with layers of funk piled on top of a simple guitar riff. If that’s not enough to grab someone’s attention, Loomis adds a rock inspired guitar solo into the mix!

The title track, “Give It Back” talks about the importance of having good role models and becoming a role model. Having been mentored by greats like Bo Diddley, Loomis knows how fortunate he’s been to have been mentored by legends and wants to give back! It’s always inspiring to know what artists do to give back, but it’s not common to hear a song about it. There’s no better way to spread the word than that.

Another unique track is “ A Woman Like You.” It’s very soulful and is nice to hear an electric piano starting off as the main instrument. Of course, Loomis brings back the electric guitar and closes out the song with a roaring solo. It’s not hard to feel that Loomis pours his soul into every note he plays.

Other stand out songs on the album include: “Partner in Crime” and “High,” which showcase Loomis’ rock influences.

Loomis is clearly polished at what he does. Give It Back is definitely a worth-while listen.
