Albany Down: South of The City Review

South of The City is the debut album from British blues rock band Albany Down. Albany Down offers a unique sound fusing the blues with modern pop rock. They are definitely not your typical blues band, as they bring a more mainstream style to the table.

South of The City opens with “Dirty,” a tune that really defines their sound well. Songs like “I Won’t Wait” and “I Wanna Know” have hit potential while the title-track sees guitarist, Paul Turley, bust out the slide for some dirty blues. Turley displays some massive chops on this album.

If there is one thing that would be nice to see on the next album it’s for the lyrics to go a bit deeper. Most of the songs on South of the City are about partying, drinking, the girl etc. While that works for the style of music, it would be nice to see them push a bit further on the next go around. With that said, South of the City is a solid debut album from Albany Down and they will be an interesting band to watch develop in the coming years.
