Tyler Bryant & The Shakedown: From The Sandcastle Review

Tyler Bryant & The Shakedown are an up-and-coming act that have already garnered quite a lot of accolades. As their debut LP, From The Sandcastle is a seriously impressive romp that is every bit as sweet as it is short.

This album really shows off Bryant’s emotional investment in his music, as well as his powerful voicebox. The whole thing drips with style and show and is injected with focused energy. It’s quite reminiscent of decades-old arena rock, but that’s not surprising, considering Bryant cites Tom Petty, Jimi Hendrix, and Jeff Beck as hearty influences.

Those influences don’t overshadow Bryant’s own expertise, though. He commands the record with his own flair for huge, hard-hitting choruses and intricate verses. But he leaves some room for sonic intimacy too, as can be seen on the softer, slower track “Being Here.”

Though based in Nashville, Tyler and the band are heading off right away to tour the US and Canada with Jeff Beck. And if there’s one thing the group shows, it’s the potential for a big and bright future.

  • Brilliant songwiriting, vocals and guitar. Not since Joe Bonamassa has a talent surfaced like Tyler Bryant to bring the roots of rock and blues to new generations to come. With long term Shakedown band members rythym section Caleb Crosby and Calvin Webster on drums and bass respectively, Tyler embodies the two guitar lead and rythym approach featuring his own impeccable stylized fluid playing with backed by the chugging rythym and Les Paul oriented bursts from Graham Whitfore, son of Aerosmith’s Brad Whitford.

These guys put on energy during live performances rarely seen from Rock and Blues bands these days. Swear and emotion have re-entered the Blues scene courtesy of Tyler’s pink Cadilac Stratand the balls to the walls renditions of all original songs that have great memorable lines as well. Like the song from the Lp says, Tyler Bryant and the Shakedown are indeed livin the “Good Life.”
